Intro

The boys are back with another killer album. This album is great and there are some absolute bangs on here, but there are some songs that are either mid and one that is terrible. It's unfortunately the worst Royal Blood album, but that's not saying much just because the quality of the last 2 are absolute peak. Will Royal Blood continue trending down in the future? Or do they have the strength to pull themselves up again from mediocrity? Time will tell.

Thoughts & Feelings?

You guys know that I'm very transparent here with you all on this blog. I will be very transparent with you now- I have NOT listened to this album very much. Re-listening now to write this article will be only my 3rd ever time listening, so if I'm a little critical on some songs- I'm sorry (shoutout to you Elise). Probably I will enjoy the songs more as I listen and get used to them, but this is just going to be my honest unfiltered opinion for most of the time here. This article is going to be very different than the last ones, because I don't know many of these songs. The articles I've done so far are on albums I have listened to hundreds of times, so this is going to be more of an on-the-fly type of piece- besides the songs that I repeat daily in my playlist. Smash or pass is basically going to be like a first time listening- live reaction.

This whole album has a different feeling to the last 2. The songs are a lot more processed and mixed. If that's your thing then great, if not then oh well. The songs still rock pretty hard and are worth a listen. Is it just me or do I still feel like I'm in the 70's listening to 00's rock? I felt that about the last album, and this album feels very similar.

This album makes me feel like I'm in the club, but at some points I have to go back to work. Like one second I'm in the club, and then my boss calls and I gotta step out for a second to answer some emails, then I can go back in the club again.

Smash or Pass?

Trouble's Coming - SMAAAAASSHHH. This song kicks my fucking socks off right out of the gate. I sing this song at the top of my lungs to the much annoyance of people around me. This song is the grooviest piece of media I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I can't help but move to this juicy beat. Get ready for trouble, because this album is going to slap your ass off.

Oblivion - Smash. This song kicks ass. I don't like it as much as I like Trouble's Coming, but the opening riff is still sick as fuck. This song definitely feels more dancy club music than the usual alt rock, but still packs a punch. Overall though no complaints. This song is very good.

Typhoons - SMMMMAAASSSHHH AS FUUUCCCKKKKK TYYYPPHOOOOOOOOOONS. I have MANY memories of being very drunk and singing this song very fucking loud. This song is so great, I can't get over how jammy it is. The riffs are fucking great, the vibes are there, this is the shit. Starting off VERY strong on this album.

Who Needs Friends - Smash. This is one of the songs on the album that I cannot remember AT ALL. The riff is pretty groovy though. The chorus is a BANG. The chorus makes this song so worth it to listen to. That shit is gonna get stuck into my head guaranteed.

Million and One - Smash, this shit sounds like it's the intro song to an NHL montage. That intro sequence is fucking incredible. Unfortunately I'm not a huge fan of anything after that though. The chorus is alright, the pre chorus is alright, but other than that nothing too special. I really enjoyed that opening sequence, I wish they built on top of that.

Limbo - Pass. There's nothing particularly wrong about this song, just something about it doesn't vibe with me correctly. The chorus is the only redeeming quality, but I just find it overall not very interesting. This is a very long song too. The ending sequence is kinda cool.

Either You Want It - Pass. What the fuck am I listening to. This shit is BAD. Sorry.

Boilermaker - SMAASSHHH AS FUUUCCCKK LET'S GO BABY THIS IS WHAT THIS ALBUM IS ALL ABOUT. This is easily the best song on the album in my opinion. I remember watching the Reading festival where they unveiled this song for the first time and my brain melted. Everything works. The riff is so sick, the pre chorus is mad, the chorus is SCREAM worthy, all the extra bits bridge works, and that fucking INTERLUDE BREAK in the middle like that kind of shit is the reason why I play guitar. This song kicks ASS.

Mad Visions - Smash. This opening is sick as fuck and I'm grooving hard. That 10ft tall part is sick as fuck. The (bass) guitar really works in this one. Healthy healthy riffs and great use of pedals to make a unique sound. I'm not that fond of the pre chorus but that's fine. I especially enjoy the background girls on this one.

Hold On - SMASH, WOAH WOAH WOAH. This came out of nowhere. I was listening to Mad Visions one second, and then all of a sudden this grabs a frying pan and smacks me straight in the mouth. This is JUST as groovy and definitely belongs. I am very surprised at how much I enjoy this one.

All We Have Is Now - Smash, I GUESS. Mom can we have Sleep? We have Sleep at home. The Sleep at home:

Conclusion

This album is GREAT. There are a lot of good songs on here, they are very groovy. I would have to say this is my least favourite album just based on the quantity of mid songs, but it's still great. Unfortunately it has by far the worst Royal Blood song (Either You Want It), but other than that it's pretty great. Check out the medal songs as per usual, leave a comment if you want to roast me and have a great day, we're finished with Royal Blood until the next album comes out.
