LET'S FUCKING GO CANADA BAABBYYYYY. ANOTHER Canadian punk rock band. Gotta fucking love my fellow Canadians. Anyway yeah Sum41 is a SUPER underrated band in my personal opinion, I think they are just young dumb kids being angry and moody and yelling at shit, JUST LIKE ME. Perfect. Anyway I haven't explored them as much as I want to, so here we go I'm super excited to listen to this shit. LET'S SEE WHAT I THINK.
Thoughts & Feelings?
This album is really great. It has so many vibes to it that there's MUCH to enjoy. I don't know the exact term for genre that's metal AND punk rock combined, but that's what this is. It has elements of both everywhere. This album I would highly recommend to anyone that's an old school punk fan of bands like Social Distortion and Bad Religion, but also you core metal fans like Metallica and Slayer. There's shit in here that sounds like all 4 of these bands.
This album makes me feel like I'm playing NHL05. Don't ask me to elaborate further. That's it. There's nothing else. I'm just playing NHL05 on my Xbox back when I was 6 or 7 years old. Don't ask me to elaborate further man I don't know.
Smash or Pass?
Intro - Smash. Not gonna lie, when I typed the name of this song and pressed enter, I immediately started typing Thoughts & Feelings, but then remembered no I already wrote that, I'm writing the name of the song- not my review. Whoopsies. Anyway yeah this is definitely an intro.
No Reason - SMMAAASSSHHHH. BAANNGGG BABY. HOLY FUCK LET'S GO. This is EXACTLY what you want it to be. Kickass guitar riffs, going fucking fast and crazy, yelling and shit it's amazing. LITERALLY STRAIGHT TO MY PLAYLIST. Holy fuck it'll be difficult to top this song, this shit is AMAZING. It's like ALMOST metal but not quite. Holy FUCK is this shit the most punk rock grooviest fucking shit I've ever heard. Absolutely amazing.
We're All to Blame - SMASH. The FUCK is that intro lmao. Yeah definitely this song isn't as groovy as the last song. But HOLY FUCK is this song awesome. I was very surprised for the change. This song is VERY good. I can't tell whether or not this song is heavy as fuck or soft and pleasant. It's like BOTH in the same song. Anyway yeah great song but not as good as No Reason.
Angels With Dirty Faces - SMMAAASSSHHHH. Holy FUCK that guitar is so fucking insane. Oh shit now I'm doubting myself. This MIGHT be better than No Reason. It's VERY close. This just went straight into my playlist, but it's just barely not as good as No Reason. This song is heavy as fuck though and goes so hard. Absolutely amazing. THIS BAND GOES SO HARD.
Some Say - SMASH. This song is great. I'm not SUPER into it but it's a great song regardless. I really like the faster paced songs but that's okay, this song does its job well. I feel like I've heard this song before so I can imagine probably it was on the radio or something. Yeah it's a great song and all I'm just not majorly into it. Great elements though.
The Bitter End - SMASH. This is DEFINITELY more like a metal song than punk rock but that's fine. It sounds awesome. The solo is fucking great. I absolutely love the chorus just because it sounds so fucking badass. The ending chug riff is also straight out of a Metallica album, super sweet.
Open Your Eyes - SMASH. Shoutout to Goldfinger, love that fucking song. This song is awesome, super catchy and punk rock. This is your standard punk rock vibe and it's great all the way through. Super easy to enjoy.
Slipping Away - Smash. This is your standard punk rock acoustic vibe song. It's pretty good but I don't think I'd listen to it outside the album.
I'm Not the One - SMMAASSHH. I just fucking love the transitions to all of these songs. I love how they blend together so perfectly. This sound is pretty fucking heavy on vocals so I like that a lot. The FUCKING BREAKDOWN IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
Welcome to Hell - SMASH. Another one of your standard fast kick you in the mouth punk rock songs. Love the drums on this song. This song is so fucking short and fast and just great to listen to. Absolutely great. This song reminds me of songs by Bad Religion or something.
Pieces - SMASH. Of course I know this song, quit your whining. Yeah it's a great song but I'm gonna pass it by a little bit because of how mainstream it is. Great song and absolutely masterpiece of a song but it's not heavy or fast enough for me to give it a medal on this album. I much prefer the other songs.
There's No Solution - Smash. Definitely a good song but I'm not crazy into it. Another slow punk rock song that I just want to explode. I don't have a whole lot to say about this song it's just overall a good song. I just wish it was faster.
88 - SMASH. Ending on a strong note, this song sounds kickass. Yeah this song is pretty great. Super catchy and enjoyable all the way through. Another one of your standard punk rock songs. WHAT A FUCKING BREAKDOWN HOLY SHIT- LOVE THAT. WHAT A FUCKING SOLO TOO. Love that there's piano in this song too.
Conclusion
Shoutout to you, Canada. I love this album, I think it's great. Give Sum41 a chance because hell yeah. This album is a perfect mix of punk rock and metal, no idea what that genre is but we'll find out someday. Anyway yeah give this a listen it's great.
