Intro
I've said it once, I'll say it again. Our Last Night has a VERY difficult time writing a bad album. This is no exception. This album kicks absolute ass, despite only being 7 songs long. None of these songs are bad at all, none are skippable, almost all are playlist worthy. Also shoutout for having one of the coolest album arts. This is like if Metallica's load was a cool looking album.
Thoughts & Feelings?
This album makes me feel like I'm crying, because I'm overwhelmed with emotion. I feel TOO much, and I'm just in the bathroom, crying my fucking eyes out. That's all I feel. Probably because I have done that many times to this, and other of their albums.
This album is honestly one of my favourites, just because every song is a fucking bang. There are ZERO songs on this album that I don't like. I love them all, because they all have something special about them that I just can't describe. This album is absolute fire, it's everything you want. It's fast, it's metal, it's slow and soothing, it's meaningful, it's a near perfect album.
Smash or Pass?
Broken Lives - SMASH. This song fucking SLAPS. Legit goes STRAIGHT into being heavy as fuck. This album starts off with this kickass song that has a deeper important message, but it's to be expected at this point by the boys. They write kickass metal songs with great breakdowns, and usually the songs are pretty fucking deep and meaningful. This song is no exception. I fucking LOVE when it gets slower and builds back up, that shit is awesome. The bridge is so good.
Tongue Tied - SMAASSHHH. I fucking LOVE this song. This one gets stuck in my head so often. I love the verse how it's so fucking chaotic it's awesome. Matt & Trevor trading lyrics is SO sick. I love how after the chaotic verse it goes into this soft and slow pre-verse, SUPER SUPER unique structure to a metal song. You would never expect this honestly. It's AWESOME. They do a great job to balance between fast paced action and controlled pace. Chills, man.
Free Radicals - SMASH. This is probably the "worst" song on the album, but that's not saying very much considering it a fucking BANGER. I think it just starts out a little slow, like how Tongue Tied did it perfectly, it kind of missteps this time. That's fine because everything is fixed once the chorus comes in. That shit is so fucking catchy. I just want to start crying when Matt sings, it's so angelic. This song also has the heaviest fucking breakdown I've ever heard. That shit is METAL AS FUCK. THANK YOU TREVOR FOR SCREAMING IN MY EARS. ALSO WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SLOW BREAKDOWN INTO "WE'RE FIGHTING FIRE WITH FIIIIIIIRRRRREEEEEEEEEEE" THAT SHIT IS THE HEAVIEST SHIT I'VE EVER HEARD HOLY FUCK.
Caught In The Storm - SMMAASSSHHHH. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Here we go, time to start fucking bawling. This song... holy fuck. I actually don't want to cry at work, but this song might do it for me. This song is PERFECT. The vocals are absolutely insane how clean they are. This song is so fucking catchy, and it just hurts my heart. That FUCKING PIANO BREAK AAAAA FUCK.
Ivory Tower - SMMMMMMAAASSSSSHHHHHHHHH. This is THE second heaviest song I've ever heard in my fucking life. This shit goes so fucking hard it's absolutely batshit crazy. I just want to scream at the top of my lungs this entire song. This shit goes so fucking hard it has NO business being this fucking heavy. Holy GUITAR BEHIND THE SCREAMING WHAT THE FUCK MATT WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME.AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Common Ground - SMASH. This is probably the most popular song on this album, and it fucking slaps. This song is AWESOME. It's hard for me to think anymore after listening to Ivory Tower, but this song is fucking amazing. This is so fucking good. It's perfectly heavy, it's perfectly not, it's great and I wouldn't change anything. That FUCKING BREAKDOWN too holy SHIT.
Ghost in the Machine - smash. i have no words for this song. it is the greatest our last night song to ever grace my ears. listen. to. this. song. now. this song breaks me emotionally.
Conclusion
Our Last Night can do VERY little wrong in my opinion. I think they are one of those bands that just has everything together. Everything works, and almost nothing EVER fails. It's difficult for me to describe how much I fucking love this band, and this album. Go fucking listen to this album and cry with me. Stop reading, go cry it out.
What do you guys think? Don't speak to me unless you've listened to Ghost in the Machine. That song is one of the greatest masterpieces in existance.
