Intro

Good morning everyone. Work is boring, I'm hungover, hey let's listen to some Green Day. This is Green Day's second released album, and it's fucking amazing. There are so many underrated songs here it's insane. I'll be going over them below.

Thoughts & Feelings?

This album is fucking great. Picking the 3 best songs is going to be very fucking difficult because there are so many bangers here. This album is a great complete album. There are your typical punk rock songs that you love to hear, and there's a lot of these slow woe is me ballads. They're fine and all. Obviously I'm not crazy into them but they're much needed and I'm glad they're here.

This album makes me feel like I've locked myself in my bedroom and I'm just fucking staring out at the stars just living in the moment. Mindfulness or something like that. That's pretty much how I feel. I don't know man don't ask me to elaborate further.

Thankfully this is where Green Day picks up permanent drummer Tre Cool, and holy shit is he a much needed change. The drums are just so much better, and honestly his personality is just fucking incredible. I'm really glad they let him shine one his own songs (Dominated Love Slave, All by Myself later on Dookie), and it's just the missing piece of the puzzle that is Green Day. I can't imagine them without Tre now, he's just so important.

Upon doing some research about this album, apparently this is Billie Joe's favourite album. That's pretty cool. He also stated on one of the live albums that his favourite song from this album is Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? So... does that mean that this is Billie's favourite Green Day song ever? Maybe? Who knows? Only the legend himself.

Smash or Pass?

2000 Light Years Away - SMMMMAAAAASSSSHHHHHH. Such a great fucking song. This song is literally what goes on inside of my brain 99.9% of the time. This song is just so fucking good, it's insane. The guitar sounds SO fucking good, the bass is ripping it, Tre is a master on the drums, Billie's vocals are so fucking old school here but it's SO good. Honestly one of my favourite songs ever and one of my favourite albums ever.

One for the Razorbacks - SMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSHHHHHHHH. This is one of my sleeper picks. This song is so fucking good, it's honestly amazing. Super catchy, super fucking simple, just easy going nice and clean punk rock. That's all you fucking want in your life, songs like this.

Welcome to Paradise - SMMAASSHH. Hey hey check it out. First version of Welcome to Paradise. Honestly I prefer the Dookie version but there's nothing wrong here. It's a great fucking song and it's neat to see how they evolved in such a short period of time to improve this song like 3 years later. Pretty crazy and cool.

Christie Rd. - SMASH. This is a slower song but I really do enjoy it. This is a classic in Green Day lore. It's just a good song and I don't really have much to say about it. I really like the open strings on Billie's guitar. That shit is pretty cool. The fucking bridge section is REALLY great. I fucking love that shit.

Private Ale - SMASH. I honestly forget about this song every time I listen to this album. There's nothing wrong with this song it's just pretty average to me. It's still a great fucking time and there's a lot of nuances to really appreciate. The bass sounds fucking phenomenal on this song.

Dominated Love Slave - SMMMMMAAAAASSSSHHHHH. This song is FUCKING hilarious. Tre Cool is actually a great singer in this fucking song, everything works. It's a hilarious country ass song it's perfect. I am so thankful that these boys have a good sense of humour cause this shit is still fucking funny today. I can't help but fucking laugh my ass off at work because it's just so stupid and silly. I also didn't know that Billie recorded the drums and Tre does the guitar. That's fucking funny.

One of My Lies - SMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I totally forgot this song was on this album and this is easily the best song on the fucking album by fucking far. Holy SHIT goosebumps right now. I always get distracted by Dominated Love Slave that I forget this song is here. Anyway yeah this is easily my favourite song off this album. It's just so fucking good, it's so old school punk rock that's just exactly what I need.

80 - SMASH. Holy bass that shit sounds so cool. I don't really have much to say about this song honestly. It's kind of a sleeper pick to be honest. It's a great great fucking song I just always forget about it. Songs like these are why Green Day are so fucking good. They just make great fucking songs they are just so easy going. It's insane. Anyway yeah this is a great song but it's not even close to my favourite. I will absolutely sing the fuck out of this one though.

Android - Smash. This song is alright. Like yeah it's a great song and all but compared to the rest of the songs on this album it's just alright. I really enjoy the lyrics, I think they're pretty humourous and ahead of it's time.

No One Knows - Smash. This song is pretty underrated but I'm rating it as such. It's a pretty decent song, the bass line at the beginning is fucking awesome but other than that it's just a mid tier song. Oh well, it's fine and there's nothing wrong with it. It's just a little slow and I get kind of sleepy during this one.

Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? - SMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH. There's a good reason why this is Billie Joe's favourite song on this fucking album because it FUCKING KICKS ASS. This song is SO fucking catchy. Holy fuck is it such an insane song. The live version was so good, holy fuck this is a great time. It's punk rock, it's catchy, holy fuck I wish we could get a modern day version of this song because holy shit I love it. Also, the answer is J. D. Salinger.

Words I Might Have Ate - Smash. This song is alright. At first I thought it was a sleeper pick but I think I'm thinking of a different song. This song is alright. Yeah my mind is going blank on this one. It's just okay. An unfortunate ending to the first section of the album. The next 4 songs are from the Sweet Children EP.

Sweet Children - SMASH. You can just tell this is from a different time period. It just sounds SO disconnected from the rest of the album. That's hilarious. Despite that however, this song is fucking great. Shoutout to the name of the original band name for Green Day. Pretty crazy how this almost stuck. Glad it changed though. Great fucking song by the way. This song is so good.

Best Thing in Town - Smash. This song is alright. Same thing though it just feels slightly disconnected so I'm not SUPER into it. It's not bad though. Super punk rock though which is great to hear.

Strangeland - Smash. This one is slightly better than Best Thing In Town but I'm just not crazy about it. It's a fine song, nothing wrong at all with it. Honestly these songs are just doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing. Old school punk rock songs from the early days.

My Generation - SMMMMAAAAASSSHHHHHH. SHOUTOUT TO THE WHO, BABY. Let's fucking go. I really enjoy this fucking cover it's so sick. Great job by the boys and this is exactly how you actually want to finish an album. This shit is so good. I also fucking love that each member gets a solo. That's neat. Also what's wrong with Heineken? I fucking love that shit. Had like 5 of them yesterday.

Conclusion

Great fucking job boys. I love this album and I think it's a super underrated album. This shit is so fucking punk rock. It's a fantastic album, I highly recommend it to anyone needing a little more punk rock in their life, fucking love Green Day with all my heart, so fucking good man.
