Intro

Avenged Sevenfold, eh? I have not listened to ANY of their modern stuff but when I saw they released a new album recently, I had to just check it out. I have no idea what this is going to sound like, so I decided to give my expectations below!

What I expect: I expect this album to be dogshit. Knowing modern metal bands, they typically don't last into their later years. This is the later years for A7X.

What I hope: I hope this album will be good. I hope there will be sick ass sexy riffs, good quality solos, and cheeky heavy breakdowns. Let's find out together, shall we?

Thoughts & Feelings?

The fact that there is a lot more personnel in this album makes me excited. I like songs / bands.

Scratch that. Reverse it. The FUCK is happening in this entire album? This shit is weird as FUCK. This album makes me feel like I'm in eternal torment. Finally once I get comfortable everything changes, I'm just being tossed around like a fucking ragdoll in the void, like I'm just a piece of dust in the wind just floating and being picked up by the wind every so often just never being able to just sit there and be dust. Whatever man I don't fucking know, don't ask me to elaborate further.

This album is so weird. I can't make any decisions about any of the songs. They don't follow a traditional path of a song. They just change genres all the time in the songs and it never stays consistent. I honestly am not a big fan.

Smash or Pass?

Game Over - Smash. The instrumental intro is super sick and I love to hear it. Then the metal actual starts and I'm kind of conflicted. I like that it's so fast and shit but... what's with the vocals? Why are they so... off? I can't really describe it. I don't like this song at all because of the vocals. It sounds pretty shitty honestly. I mean the song is... pretty cool I guess but what's going on with the vocals? Why are they so much louder than the actual rest of the instruments? I don't know, I think I'm just going to write this off as a weird song. It's okay. I would never want to put this in a playlist but... whatever let's hope it gets better. Focus less on vocals and more on sexy riffs please. The piano is cool to hear.

Mattel - Pass. OkAAAAYYY. Here we go finally. This song sounds fucking SICK starting off, and then all of a sudden it's just ruined by the vocals, what the fuck is the problem with the vocals? I have no idea what the fuck they've done with the processing of it. It sounds so off, almost a mix between too amateur and mixed too much. I can't describe it. Bruh what the fuck happened to the cool song, it's completely ruined now. This song is like... if my great grandmother was into heavy metal, but she couldn't decide between the Sound of Music or a metal album. I am NOT into this song anymore. It's fucking flip flop between trying to be the sweetest song you've ever heard and the most metal song you've ever heard. Like... the FUCK is this shit, and what's going on?? I'm so confused.

Nobody - SMASH. Okay this song is pretty fucking sick. It has a lot of cool sounds involved but it does NOT sound like an A7X song. This sounds like some contemporary shit like Muse or something. It's fucking weird but kind of neat. This song is definitely cool but it's completely not an Avenged Sevenfold song. It sounds kind of strange but also really fucking neat. Sick ass fucking solo in there, and I like the violins and shit. Pretty neat.

We Love You - Pass. What the fuck is this? I was kind of excited at first by the drums but then these weird ass vocals started, what the fuck is going on? This shit is weird as all fuck. I wish these songs would follow one single path instead of trying to be like 6 different genres in one. This song is fucking weird but all of a sudden it gets really thrashy and I love that part but other than that I'm not super into this weird ass song.

Cosmic - Pass. This is a strange song. It sounds fine enough though and it at least follows a straight path kind of. There's a big ass solo in the beginning so that's cool but then it transitions into a piano song?? AGAIN, like what the FUCK. PICK A GENRE AND STICK TO IT. I'm starting to get a little frustrated here. Like... they're just flip flopping all over the fucking place, it's really difficult to enjoy these songs because finally when I pick up on something I enjoy, I don't have ANY time to enjoy it because they immediately are like "oop nevermind, let's switch the song into something else". NONE OF THIS IS METAL. FUCKING HELP ME. I'm just frustrated and done with this fucking weird ass album. This is a 7 minute song full of nonsense.

Beautiful Morning - Pass. Finally an actual metal song. The problem? It sounds like shit. I think it's just the vocals throwing me pretty off. 6 and a half minutes of this. Jesus Christ I don't have time for this shit. This song isn't BAD, it's just not good. Back to this weird ass contemporary shit. How can anyone enjoy this? Cool ass fucking solo thrown in there, but how am I supposed to enjoy it? 

Easier - SMASH. What the fuck is this techno ass shit. Okay wait there's actual riff and guitar in this one. Wait a minute this could be a good song. Wait a minute this is a good song. FINALLY. FINALLY A GOOD FUCKING SONG OH MY GOODNESS. I have HIGH hopes for this fucking song, please don't fuck it up boys. This weird ass techno voice shit I'm not into but hopefully it doesn't last long. It doesn't. Thank god. This is easily the best song of the album, and it's not even that great of a song. It's a good song but it has so many weird ass elements in it. I have no idea, all I know is this is the least shit song so far.

G - Pass. The fuck? At least there is a girl singer involved in this song. That's pretty cool. Other than that this song is weird and it sucks.

(O)rdinary - Pass. What the fuck are they doing with the vocals and shit. I'm so over this album because it's just fucking weird. Robotic ass vocals. Fucking weird. Jesus CHRIST that ending is fucking scary.

(D)eath - Pass. At least there is cool violin in this one. Other than that this song is fucking weird and I don't like it.

Life Is but a Dream... - Pass. This song is just a long piano song. Nothing wrong with it but not exactly metal like I was hoping it would be.

Conclusion

Holy fuck what was any of that? This was NOT a metal album. This was a weird ass album and I'm not going to lie I did NOT like it. I thought this album was terrible. I was hoping for a metal album and I did not get a metal album. I got some weird Muse ass shit. What the fuck was any of that? Jesus Christ get me away from this album.
