Good morning everyone, good morning. Happy Thursday everyone, hope you are all doing well and having a good day or whatever. So following up that extremely silly stupid metal album review I did yesterday, I will be doing the most pop punk type of album you’ll have ever heard in your life. Fucking Paramore. I have to admit, I really really enjoy Paramore. They have JUST enough punk feel in it to keep me interested, and it’s no surprise that Hayley Williams is extremely attractive and her voice is magnificent. She’s definitely one of my favourite female singers. Anyway, what do I think of this extremely poppy album? Let’s get into it.
Thoughts & Feelings?
A little rant here before I get started, I absolutely hate the term pop-punk, especially since it’s used so much around Green Day. I absolutely do not think Green Day are pop-punk, they are 100% punk rock. This band right here Paramore is extremely pop-punk because they use so many elements of pop in their music. Like that’s fine, there’s no negative connotation associated with the term “pop-punk”, I’m just stating for the record that this album is pop-punk, Green Day is absolutely not. Stop using that term around them. Anyway, rant concluded. Getting into the album now.
This album makes me feel like I’m in high school listening to Avril Levigne again. Holy shit does that bring back memories. Not that I was ever a big Avril fan, my sister was though. So holy shit yeah that’s exactly the vibe I get from this album. Pretty good stuff. Anyway yeah don’t ask me to elaborate further.
Also for context, this album review is being written after the whole Jeremy Davis controversy, so just saying I’m not going to go into that because frankly I just don’t care.
Smash or Pass?
For a Pessimist, I’m Pretty Optimistic - SMAAASSSHHHH. Absolutely LOVE the guitar intro, that shit slaps. Of course Hayley sounds amazing, that’s going to be a common thing throughout this album. The guitar sounds fucking fantastic honestly, there are SO many things for me to enjoy here. I am a sucker for this. This song sounds great and I’m glad it’s not 100% pushing Hayley’s vocals and giving the other instruments some good action involved. Yeah this song is incredible. Super super catchy.
That’s What You Get - SMMMMMMAAAAASSSSSSHHHHHH. I always knew I was going to get suckered into the mainstream songs but holy fuck can you just listening to this and NOT want to jam around and fuck around dancing and whatever like… holy fuck this song goes so fucking hard. It’s an absolute jam like holy fuck. That’s what you get when you let your heart win. WoooaaaAOOAOAOOOAOAOOAHH. Holy FUCK that shit is so CATCHY. This is SUCH a pop song but holy fuck I can’t help myself. It’s SO good. It’s SO catchy. Sorry everyone I fucking love Paramore I think they’re fucking fantastic. Anyway yeah sorry but I just love the mainstream songs on this album so yeah expect that. Times like these I wish I had a partner to listen to and dance around to this fucking song. This is the perfect song for that moment.
Hallelujah - SMASH. The intro to this song really caught me off guard so that was pretty cool. I’m not SUPER into this song but it is a good jam. They really utilize Hayley a little more in this song which is cool and all but it’s just not as catchy or whammy jammy as the last one. Absolutely nothing against this song. It’s great.
Misery Business - SSSSSMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Yeah fuck you knew this was going to be #1, right? It’s just SO fucking good. It’s just so fucking jammy, it’s catchy, great guitar in there, everything just sounds fantastic. It’s a REAL shame that Hayley refuses to play this song anymore. Oh well that’s fine. This song is so good regardless. If you listen to this song and you can’t enjoy it, holy fuck what the hell is wrong with you? How could somebody listen to this and NOT want to just jam the fuck out? It’s just SO good. EXCELLENT simple solo that I desperately need to learn. GREAT instrument kill, great drops, everything works. Such a great catchy song.
When It Rains - SMASH. This is a MUCH slower and more mellowed out pop type song but it sounds great honestly. I don’t mind this because it’s the perfect segway away from Misery Business. Normally I would really not be interested in these slow ass songs but holy hell this one is really enjoyable. I enjoy this a lot more than I should. It also has a lot of really cool guitar sounds involved. I enjoyed that song a lot.
Let the Flames Begin - SMAAAASSSSHHHHHH. Holy fuck this sounds so fucking good. It goes SO hard. Honestly I have been trying to figure out this entire song and holy fuck did I enjoy it and I have no idea why. Like I really liked this one. It did a nice flip flop between being nice and easy going to being the absolute most explosive punk you’ve ever fucking heard in your life. Holy hell was that sick.
Miracle - SMMAASHH. I’m REALLY enjoying these last few songs. It’ll be hard to rank a #3 for me. I’m not SUPER into the chorus of this one unfortunately. I think I liked Let the Flames Begin more than this one. Still this one is an absolute fucking banger. I really think this might be a no skip album cause everything sounds really great. I haven’t heard any song so far where I am not enjoying myself. Love Paramore let’s fucking go.
crushcrushcrush - SMMMAAASSSHH. Oh I’ve definitely fucking heard this. WHAT? Holy shit really? This is Paramore?? This is on this album???? I have DEFINITELY heard this song before. Oh shit this is fucking sick. This is the 3rd most listened to song on the album so for that purpose I cannot make it #3 even though I’m tempted. Holy shit this song sounds like it’s from like 2018/2019, but this is fucking 2007 holy hell that’s hard to believe. Am I the only one that’s like… what the fuck? I don’t know man, anyway. This song is fucking great but for REAL I don’t enjoy it more than Let the Flames Begin. I fucking LOVED that one. Anyway yeah this song is great regardless. Super catchy and jammy. SICK ass ending too.
We Are Broken - Smash. Nice ass piano / acoustic guitar song. Obviously you all know me, but this is really pleasant and is much needed on this album. I am happy this song is here because it’s a nice relaxing break from the action. This is a cry yourself to sleep song.
Fences - Smash. Oh dear uh oh. I am not liking this one very much. It’s got such a strange vibe to it. I am going to give a smash regardless though because it’s gonna turn around. Yeah here we go, I knew it was going to get better. Just a strange little derpy intro. Yeah this is a good song but as for SO many albums, this is the section where they dump the mid songs in. This song is pretty decent. Solo pretty good, the bridge section pretty decent, not much to say because this is the filler section.
Born for This - SMASH. Now we’re talking again. Save a good one for last thank god for that. It’s pretty good but same thing it’s kind of a filler song. Regardless however, this is pretty enjoyable and laid back pop-punk so I can just hang out and vibe to it. It’s pretty easy going and I can just chill and smile. REALLY cool bridge section.
Misery Business - Acoustic Version - SMASH. Nice little exit extra song. This is pretty cool but what am I supposed to say? It’s just an acoustic version of Misery Business. Really cool. That’s about it.
Conclusion
I love Paramore. They are one of those guilty pleasure bands that I really enjoy but would be a little embarrassed to admit it. Honestly I don’t really care anymore, especially after listening to this album. I love Paramore, I think they’re excellent. Are they a little more pop than punk? Yes. Is there anything wrong with that? Absolutely not. That’s their style and I really enjoy it. Sorry everyone, this album is an absolute masterpiece.
