Intro

I have no fucking idea what bullshittery happened to my font spacing so don't worry about that. This website is fucked up sometimes whatever. ANYWAY- The Offspring! I haven't done them before, and I have fond memories of this album, listening to it back in my college days many many times. Spoiler alert, I am not the biggest Offspring fan but I do REALLY enjoy this album. This album is extremely punk and that's why I'm into it so much. So without further ado, let's get into it.

Thoughts & Feelings?

How does this album make me feel? It makes me PISSED OFF writing this fucking review, I mean what the hell has this site done to my text? It's so weird, everything is wrong... just... just forget about that boys I'm sorry, I won't mention it again but just know it's PISSING me off. Time for some epic punk rock to get me angry.

This album makes me feel like I'm about to get into an epic fight in the parking lot of a 7/11 at 5am because I made some angry drunk dudes upset. It's like the Warriors where everyone is assembling, or that one scene in Michael Jackson's Beat It where they are having that stupid ass tied up knife fight. I don't really know man don't ask me to elaborate further.

I don't really like the Offspring that much just because the vocals are a little annoying for me. Sorry about that, Dexter. Anyway yeah it's tolerable for me most of the time. That's my only real complaint.

Smash or Pass?

Time to Relax - Smash. Not really a song but I do have fucking funny fond memories of this dude.

Nitro (Youth Energy) - SMASH. Great fucking opening song. This song is so action packed, full of energy and super catchy. It's core punk rock, and it's crazy to me that this shit came out the same year as Dookie. They just sound so different. Anyway yeah this is a pretty good punk rock song.

Bad Habit - SMASH. The opening is really shitty to me but after that it gets really really fucking good. I fucking LOVE that breakdown though, holy shit that is fucking awesome. Other than that yeah, this is a great punk rock song. Much love to this one.

Gotta Get Away - SMAAASSSSH. This one is a little slower and groovier which is fine. The chorus is SUPER fucking catchy. Honestly I really fucking love this one. This is definitely one of those songs I remember from back in the day. The background guitar has that sexy back and forth thing going on, and I fucking love that. This song is high up there for me.

Genocide - SMMAASSHHH. Holy FUCK that opening guitar riff is fucking insane. Holy fuck I forgot this fucking song existed. This shit is INSANE. I forgot how many bangers are on this fucking album. It's so fucking great. Sick ass breakdown / bridge section. Really fucking love that. Great fucking song.

Something to Believe In - Smash. This song is alright. I'm not crazy into it but it's pretty good regardless. I just don't find it as catchy as the last couple. There's nothing wrong with it at all I'm just not as into it. I also do not remember this song very much from my old school days. Neat bridge section though.

Come Out and Play - SMAAAASSHHHH. Of course this was going to be a fucking smash, everyone knows about this song. It's so fucking good. This is a classic ass fucking song and it's so good. I don't think I'll give it the gold just because it's the obvious answer, but just know that I absolutely fuck with this song.

Self Esteem - Smash. OKAY hear me out. This song is a little overrated in my opinion. I don't know why I'm just not super into it. Like yeah it's a great song and all but would I ever listen to this outside on my own? Probably not. I could but I probably won't. Regardless this is a big one for you Offspring fans, but that's fine it's amazing and I give you credit but I'm just not big into it. It's a great song though. Holy fuck this song is long.

It'll Be a Long Time - SMASH. Now we're talking about. Fast action unhinged punk rock. That's exactly what I'm into. This song is pretty good and I can easily enjoy it. Super catchy fucking chorus and easy for me to enjoy. Fucking REALLY enjoy the tempo increase section, that's fucking cool.

Killboy Powerhead - Smash. This song is pretty good but I think it's just a little bit annoying for my taste. It's okay though I don't really mind it that bad. Just pretty standard stuff so far.

What Happened to You? - SMMMAAAASSHHHH. Oh FUCK yeah I forgot about this song. This is like some fucking SKA PUNK shit I fucking LOVE IT. Hell yeah baby this is probably a SUPER underrated pick but I fucking LOVE this song. Fucking SICK ass solo thrown in there. This song is great and don't ask me to explain it, I fucking LOVE ska punk.

So Alone - Smash. Oh man I remember this one. This honestly sounds pretty fucking sick, I love the palm muted gallop sections, that shit is SUPER fucking cool. Yeah this song is pretty good.

Not the One - Smash. Yeah another pretty easy going punk rock song. This is usually the area of the album where I run out of things to say just because I've said it all. I need to start thinking of things to say during these ending sections where it's just pretty standard stuff. The tone on the palm muting trem sections on the guitar is really really cool.

Smash - SMASH. Naturally I have to give this a smash. Of course. Honestly this is a great song to end off the album thankfully. It's just exactly what the rest of the album has been. Punk rock fuck you fast and catchy. There ya go. Great song to finish it all off. Holy fuck I forgot that there was a secret song at the end of this one. I checked the time and it was like 10 minutes I'm like what the fuck? This song is NOT 10 fucking minutes long. I'll briefly go over the secret stuff just because I have the time to do so.

Secret Stuff - Smash. Fucking love the throwback to Genocide because I loved that song. It was a sick ass song. Pretty neat ending sequence. Pretty fucking cool return to Come Out and Play. I really love this cause it just sounds so... out there. Like the Arabic scale or whatever it's called? Pretty fucking sweet. Iconic line. Super super cool. I love when bands used to include secret stuff like this in their music. Funny that the two mainstream punk rock albums from this year did the same thing.

Conclusion

I was not alive, but this album was extremely influential back in the day. This combined with Dookie started a wave of popularity for punk rock and I can't help but be happy about it, because without success I probably wouldn't have even listened to this type of shit when I was born just 3 years later. This album is GREAT. Absolutely fantastic, I'm just not a huge Offspring fan. That being said however, all the fucking respect in the world. This album is a masterpiece.
