Intro
I know literally nothing about this band. This is a completely blind review for me. The only song I've ever heard or Skate or Die, and I fucking LOVE that song. That song is so fucking good that it made me want to check these guys out even more. So here I am. All I know is they are a punk band similar to the usual shit I like. What do I think of this punk rock album? Let's find out below.
Thoughts & Feelings?
This album makes me feel like I walked into a record store that's super local and only playing punk rock bands and I'm browsing through the CD's and records they have and over the speakers they're just playing the biggest punk rock hits of the last 20 years. I literally hear so many fucking bands, The Ramones, Green Day, Suicidal Tendancies, Rancid, even fucking Goldfinger once in a while I heard a bit of that. Anyway yeah don't ask me to elaborate further.
Listening to this album, it's literally just your standard punk rock album. All the songs sound great, the vocalists do a great job, everyone does a great job. This takes inspiration from so many bands, it's really nice to hear all the little nuance inspirations taken for the songs. I love it.
Smash or Pass?
Skate or Die - SMMMMMAAAAAASSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH. The whole reason I'm reviewing this album is because of how much I love this fucking song. As I stated previously, I know literally nothing about this band. This is your straight up standard skate punk rock song though and it's fucking awesome. This song has almost everything you want. Sexy guitar licks and riffs, thrashy punk rock fast action vocals, the entire song is just complete and SO enjoyable.
Don't Want to Go - SMASH. This is definitely a different singer. Maybe not but it definitely sounds like that. It's fucking great though. Your standard punk rock songs that kicks ass. The chorus is super super catchy and I enjoyable. I could definitely see this song getting stuck in my head.
Bigger Than Kiss - SMASH. Another straight banger. This is the same singer as Skate or Die. This song is so fucking short, but that's punk rock for ya. Sounds fucking great though. Fast as fuck and goes nuts to butts. Sexy ass pick slide in there, love to hear it.
Do What? - SMASH. I'm starting to think that the two vocalists are taking turns and switching back and forth between having singing roles. That's cool to hear, kind of like a Blink 182 situation.
Not Ok - SMASH. Theory confirmed. The singers are trading songs back and forth. Now we're back to the same guy who sings Skate or Die. This song is pretty fucking good but it's getting to the point where all these songs are sounding pretty similar. Like it sounds great but I would have a very difficult time telling you which song is which without studying. Though this song is VERY fucking pleasant to listen to.
Forbidden Planet - SMASH. This is sounding like some doom punk rock, what the fuck this is sick. Theory busted though, same guy singing. I absolutely love the pedal point guitar but other than that yeah it's a standard song.
Call in Sick - SMASH. God I WISH I could do this today. This song is EXTREMELY relatable and sounds great honestly. This shit is such a punk rock song though it sounds like something off a Rancid album. Sounds great.
Fatso Goes Nutzoid - SMASH. I thought this was a metal song at first just because of how heavy the guitars sound. It's FUCKING NUTS though. This song is literally like a Suicidal Tendencies song. It's fucking sick if you're into that batshit aspect of punk rock where it just goes fucking nuts. This song is also short as fuck. It's great.
Without You - SMASH. More peddle point nonsense which I love to hear. This is another easy going pop-punk type song that just sounds pretty enjoyable. For some reason this song breaks my fucking heart right now.
Tonguebiter - Smash. For some reason the vocals for this song kind of get on my nerves but it sounds good regardless. I just don't think I like this song as much as the last few.
Be with You - SMASH. This sounds like a fucking Ramones song. I can't remember which one. Blitzkreig Bop I think. The chorus kind of gets on my nerves but other than that it's your standard punk rock song and I can't really complain. It's pretty easy going.
The Jerk - SMASH. Nothing much to say. Good punk rock song, easy going, standard song.
The Came from the Shadows - SMASH. FINALLY the title song. I've been looking forward to this one. This song is definitely about vampires. There's honestly not much for me to dissect here anymore, this is another punk rock song that's all I have to say. Sounds great, works well, nothing special just your average song that I've been hearing for the entirety of this album.
Todayo - SMASH. The bass is nice and loud in this song, something I never really noticed before but definitely should have. Cool fake ending and brings it back by yelling Todayo, that's pretty fucking cool. I like that a lot.
Conclusion
Punk rock. There ya go that's all you need to know. This band is great, this album is great. They do nothing exceptional besides making great sounding punk rock songs. I think this album is great, I wish the songs were a little different from each other and I wish they mixed it up with some slow songs / ballads or whatever but nope every song is exactly the same punk rock song. Not a bad thing if that's what you want, but I definitely have to dock some points for that. Anyway yeah this is a great album and I'm glad I checked it out.
