Intro

Hey guys. Feeling kinda shitty today so I figured it would be the absolute perfect opportunity to review Tre, since this is the sad songs album which I fucking love. There are a lot of songs on here that I can tolerate, but not every single one lands. I have VERY strong opinions on many songs on this album so let's get right the fuck into it.

Thoughts & Feelings?

This song makes me feel like I'm lying in my bed with my earbuds in and my iPod on, just fucking crying after a hard day. This album is so easy to cry to. Just... try it for me. Once you feel like you need a day to cry just get under the covers and turn the lights off, put this album on and let the river flow. It's actually quite enjoyable sometimes, I don't really know man don't ask me to elaborate further.

This album might be my favourite of the 3 trilogy albums. The songs aren't annoying or offensive to my ears like Uno and Dos besides a few stinkers. The slow songs really shine in this album and that's where the money is at. This song just has so much heartbreak in it for me, I just can't help but feel sad during these songs. I think that's very comforting to me. I accept the fact that I feel sad listening to these songs.

Smash or Pass?

Brutal Love - SMMMAAAAASHHHHHHHHHH. Crying my FUCKING eyes out. This song for some reason is just the most heartbreak sounding song on the fucking planet. I couldn't imagine a song that sounds more upset than this one. I fucking LOVE this song. This does not sound anything like Green Day sounds but holy fuck does it work so well. Billie Joe's voice is just so fucking good in this song, the chord progression is so simple yet executed so perfectly. It just sounds fucking depressing and that's exactly what I'm in the mood for today. Also holy fuck the SOLO in this fucking song is SO simple yet so effective. This is an example of FEEL. Shoutout to the piano slide, fucking love that. This song goes so fucking hard.

Missing You - SMMMMAAAAASSSHHHH. An underrated masterpiece of a fucking song. This song goes SO good. The fucking chorus goes so god damn hard it just breaks me. Like if I ever want to fucking cry my eyes out and need a moment to just break down and feel sad, these two fucking songs will absolutely do the job. I will fucking bawl if I hear this shit alone in my room. Chicka aaaahhhh. I fucking LOVE how Billie Joe switches it up to "You're not around and I'm a FUCKING DISASTER", holy fuck that line goes SO GOD DAMN HARD. These two songs fucking carry the album so far past the shitty songs. Speaking of which...

8th Avenue Serenade - Pass. The guitar at the beginning just sounds SO cool, but other than that this is a pretty standard basic song. I find it a little annoying so I'm gonna give it a pass. I would never actively want to listen to this song outside of this album, and I most certainly would never put it in my playlist. The chorus could get stuck in my head once in a while but other than that this is just a standard basic mid ass Green Day song. Not interested, it's just meh.

Drama Queen - SMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAASSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH. Probably my favourite fucking song on this album. This song goes SO FUCKING HARD. It is a cheeky little acoustic ballad by Billie Joe that just sounds incredible. This is a VERY easy acoustic song to just jam around with. This song just sounds so laid back, it's just so fucking sick. I play this song all the fucking time and it cracks my heart each time. The solo is so fucking sick cause it starts off on piano and then transitions into this gnarly ass guitar solo that fits so perfectly. It goes hard but not hard enough to make the song worse. It's perfect. This is an example of a perfect song to me. I wouldn't change a single thing on this song, it just works. Shoutout to you Todd Howard.

X-Kid - Smash. This one is barely a smash for me. I have fond memories of this song. It's another pretty standard mid ass Green Day song but honestly it doesn't sound too bad. It has some good moments and elements that I enjoy but honestly I wouldn't ever listen to this outside of the album. The vocals are pretty enjoyable, but I just don't care too much about anything else. The guitar is just fine, everything else is just fine.

Sex, Drugs & Violence - Pass. There are not a lot of elements for me to enjoy here so that's why it's a pass. The song is fine and all but it's just generic and I don't care about it. The chorus kind of annoys me so yeah I don't like that. The pre-chorus is okay, I just don't really fucking care. This song sucks. The ONLY part I REALLY REALLY enjoy is when Mike sings. FUCK YEAH MIKE, LOVE YOU BUDDY, I NEED YOU TO SING MORE OFTEN, JUST NOT IN THESE SHITTY ASS SONGS. Fucking hell.

A Little Boy Named Train - Pass. Another song I'm really not into. This one is much less offensive on the ears to me than Sex, Drugs & Violence, I just don't care about this song. Like it's just OKAY I guess, but like... it's just okay. I don't really give a fuck about this song and I never will. It sounds fine I guess but it's not very special and doesn't have anything that I'm super crazy about. It's kind of catchy and I have no problem vibing or singing to this song I just don't really care about it honestly. I would never want to put this in a playlist or anything because it's just standard mid shit. This song also goes on for way fucking longer than it needs to go on for.

Amanda - Smash. This is finally a pretty good rock song in here. This one has many things to appreciate. The verses are nicely done and sound pretty enjoyable, the pre-chorus sounds uplifting yet breaks you. The chorus is super super enjoyable. I really enjoy this song. This is an easy ass laid back vibe song that I would absolutely put in a playlist. I especially enjoy the guitar section after the 2nd chorus, that shit is absolutely jammy and I love it. The bridge section is super enjoyable and fits in with the song perfectly. The solo is super lacking unfortunately but it's okay. It does it's job, I just wish it was a little better. It's pretty obvious to me that this song is super enjoyable but it's nothing crazy special.

Walk Away - Pass. Honestly I am super not into this song. This one is super unique unfortunately for me because it SHOULD be enjoyable for me to listen to but I'm just not about it for some reason. It's just the general vibe I get from it that puts me off. It's a fine song, there's nothing bad about it it's just too generic and not cool enough for my liking. Anyway yeah I would like to move on because I can't really describe why I don't enjoy this song very much.

Dirty Rotten Bastards - SMASH. This is an EXTREMELY underrated song. Probably the most underrated Green Day song on all 3 of these trilogy albums. This song is so fucking catchy, it's a big hit for me. I can't help but jam out to this song it's just so easy and simple. It's a great song and honestly I really implore you to explore this. I can see how it would be annoying to some, but to me it's just a mix between jammy and chill. I really enjoy how the song completely changes midway through, that's pretty fucking cool- I like that they did something different for once. I ESPECIALLY love the 3rd section with the bass and fast ass guitar, that's so uncharacteristic from this album and it sounds great. The vocals go fucking HARD. Honestly this song is like the Homecoming / American Eulogy / Forever Now of all 3 albums. It's a long ass song with many different sections. It sounds fucking awesome.

99 Revolutions - Smash. This is a fine song. I ALWAYS get this one confused with Lazy Bones based on the drums. I have nothing crazy to say about this song, it's just pretty good. The chorus kind of gets on my nerves after so long but it's alright I can tolerate it. There's not a lot wrong with this song. It's just a pretty decent song. End of story. The guitar sounds pretty nice in this one. I like those little accent chords during the verses.

The Forgotten - SMMMMMMAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Another song that's EXTREMELY similar to Brutal Love, so naturally it sounds fucking fantastic. The piano is heartbreaking, Billie Joe's voice is incredible. This is the definitive last song of the trilogy, and you know it. This is just such a great song. Super underrated. This is definitely a side of Green Day you'd never expect to hear but holy fuck did we need to sing it. Green Day is much more than a punk rock band. They're so skilled in many different ways you wouldn't expect. I love this song, and it makes me sad that the trilogy is over.

Conclusion

Yeah I know, the trilogy fucking sucked. But you know what? I'm glad it happened. Green Day have NEVER done things the way you want them to / expect them to. They do what THEY want, and I have so much fucking respect for that. I love Green Day with every part of my heart, and they will forever be my favourite band of all time. Yes, the trilogy was bad but it was needed. I am so glad it happened because it brought out sides of Green Day we've never heard. Thank you for never conforming to the standard basic ass songs that they could have marketed and had financially successful for the rest of the career, thank you boys for experimenting and being yourselves. This album is a great album, and I am highly thankful for it. Much love.
